How it works

  1. 01

    Drop the voice note

Save the voice message from WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal or iMessage, or the memo from your recorder app, and drop the file here. Nothing is uploaded; it stays in your browser's memory.

  2. 02

    Whisper loads once

The OpenAI Whisper speech model (about 77 MB) is downloaded a single time and cached. After that it starts instantly, even offline.

  3. 03

    Read, copy, reply

The text appears in one go. Copy it, download it as .txt, or keep the .srt with timestamps for long notes.

Step by step

Getting the file out of each app

Messengers keep voice notes inside the chat. Two taps get the file onto your computer or into your Files app.

WhatsApp

Long-press the voice message, tap Share (iPhone) or Forward and then the share icon (Android), and save it to Files, send it to yourself by email or AirDrop it to your Mac. In WhatsApp Desktop, hover the message, open the menu and choose Download.

.opus (Opus audio in an Ogg container)

iPhone Voice Memos and iMessage

In Voice Memos, tap the recording, then the three dots, then Share, and choose Save to Files or AirDrop. For an iMessage audio message, long-press it and choose Save; it lands in Voice Memos.

.m4a (AAC)

Telegram and Signal

Telegram: open the message menu and choose Save to Files or, on desktop, Save as. Signal: tap the message, choose Save (Android) or Share (iPhone) and save the file.

.ogg (Telegram), .aac or .m4a (Signal)

Android voice recorder

In Samsung Voice Recorder, Google Recorder or any recorder app, long-press the recording, tap Share and send it to Drive, email or your computer. Older recorders save .amr or .3ga, which some browsers cannot decode; convert those to MP3 first.

.m4a, .mp3, .wav, .amr

Why transcribe voice notes on your own device?

A voice note is someone else's voice. Most online converters upload it to a server, keep it for a while and sometimes train on it. This tool cannot: the speech model runs in your browser.

The sender's voice stays private

Whatever your friend, client or colleague said stays on your device. Nothing is uploaded, so there is nothing to leak, store or train on.

No account, no per-minute pricing

No sign-up, no minute packs, no watermark. Transcribe one voice note or fifty; the only cost is a bit of your computer's time.

Built for long, rambling notes

Eight minutes of someone thinking out loud? Read the whole thing in thirty seconds, search it, and quote the part that matters.

Formats, languages and accuracy

Formats per app

  • OPUS
  • OGG
  • M4A
  • AAC
  • MP3
  • WAV
  • AMR

WhatsApp sends .opus, Telegram .ogg, iPhone Voice Memos and iMessage .m4a, Signal .aac or .m4a, Android recorders .m4a, .mp3 or .amr. The tool accepts anything your browser can decode. Chrome, Edge and Firefox play all of these except .amr; Safari does not decode .opus. If a file fails, convert it to MP3 or M4A.

Languages

Whisper understands more than 90 languages. Pick the language the person speaks before you start; it matters most for short notes and strong accents. Mixed-language notes come out in the language you picked. The model transcribes, it does not translate.

Background noise

Voice notes are recorded on phones, often outside, in cars or in the kitchen. Whisper "base" copes well with clear speech and moderate noise; wind, traffic and people talking over each other bring the quality down. Read the text once before you act on it.
